Is MOTHERS an acronym for Mostly Overwhelmed, Tired, Hurried, Exhausted & Routinely Stressed?

Sometimes it sure feels that way! There is never enough time in the day! I find myself stating that things will slow down someday, someday I’ll get around to getting the house organized, someday, someday, on and on it goes. The problem is, someday never comes. I know this all sounds way to familiar. But what is one to do? As mothers, we have to take care of our kids, do the laundry, cook the meals, clean the house and run the kids all over heck and gone! And usually, hold down a job at the same time! I don’t know about you, but there isn’t a Wonder Woman suite hiding somewhere in the back of my closet! I did try that role for a while. Boy was that a mistake! Nope, Wonder Woman I am not! A sad reality I had to face.
Can’t we just borrow some more time for a while? No, I guess we only have24 hours in one day. I have tried many a time to just take that much needed time from the sleep allotment time slot. Well, that doesn’t work so well either. The next day I just find myself completely exhausted and worthless, with a huge dose of bad attitude to top it off! Okay, so you can relate well with me can’t you? So what are we to do? It is our general nature to nurture. We have so many people depending on us to take care of them. Well, let me ask you this…who is going to take care of you? Reality check. You need to take care of you. But wait, did you not hear me? I don’t have enough time as it is, and now you want to add another person onto my list to take care of?! Nope, eliminate that one; it can be scratched off that daily to do list! Not so fast! You need to move you to the top of your priority list. You really need to take care of yourself and by doing so you will be doing the best thing for your loved ones at the same time. You will feel better, have more energy, have more patience, think clearer and be a happier person all the way around. Now before you decide that you’ve heard it all before, hear me out, and try these simple tips. I do have some great tips that have helped me out tremendously .You will feel much better and more in balance. ‘Cause let’s face it…your life is out of balance if you don’t have time for you. So here we go!
Tip #1
This is my favorite stress reliever! Teach it to your whole family! Especially your kids before big tests! Cross your ankles and your arms and relax. It works almost instantly!
Tip #2
Write down positive affirmations and read them twice daily. They really, really do work. Sit quietly somewhere and visualize your affirmation as a reality. A few examples,” My mind is clear and my body is strong,” “I make time every day to take care of myself because I am a valuable person”
Tip #3
Listen closely to your self-talk. We gravitate toward what we think about. So make your positive traits stronger and the negative weaker. Talk highly to yourself about you.
Tip #4
Take at least 30 minute, preferably one hour, every day and dedicate it to you. Take a walk, climb into a hot bath with a good book, do something that brings you happiness. Try Tai Chi. It is an excellent way to get fit and relieve stress. Today, right now, make a list of 5 things that you enjoy doing. You may find this difficult. If so, it is a warning that you are severely neglecting yourself.
Tip #5 Get 8 hours of sleep every night, eat healthy and take vitamins and supplements.
Remember, you are worth it!

Who’s Responsible For Dis Un?

The heads turn and fingers point. “Surely I am not the one responsible”, is the reoccurring response. What is it with dis anyway? Especially in today’s economy people are dissatisfied, discontent and discouraged. More and more people seem to be riddled with dis-ease. And what are we to do with dis relative, the other un? People scowl as they state that they are unhappy. They may feel unappreciated at home, unaccomplished in their career, all in all completely unsuccessful. Maybe you are unfit and unhealthy, which is making you unproductive at work. It is all so unfair! We can sometimes find ourselves in a downward spiral that continues to spin faster and faster.
But wait! Dis Un isn’t all bad! Let me reach out a helping hand and assist you to discover the way to turn it all around and become unstuck in your current situation! Yes, dissatisfied to satisfied, discontent to content, unhappy to happy, unsuccessful to successful, unfit to fit, and unhealthy to healthy . Even if you are completely discouraged, to find the courage to make the shift. Even if stopping the downward spiral seems unimaginable now, to imagine it vividly and start making it a reality.
Some may chuckle and think that I am unaware of how difficult things, times, or situations may be. Some even have disabilities. I have many disabilities. One for example is the dis-ability to draw a straight line if my life depended on it. Along with many, many other things I do not have the ability to do. But I do know that I am blessed with many abilities. Just as you are. Just as we all are. A dis-ability does not define anyone. Even if someone has the dis-ability to walk, they still have the ability to smile, to talk, to see a beautiful sunset, to touch a loved one, to write his or her own story that no one else can write for them. He or she will change lives because he or she lived.
You may disagree. But we all have a couple things in common that are undisputable. We all have 24 hours in a day. You cannot buy, borrow or transfer even one hour into or from another day. Twenty-four hours in one day, no more, no less. We have been given one brain and one body. Maybe you wish for a different brain or a different body, but non-the-less, you have been given one. And only one. And, you have the ability to make choices. How you choose to use your 24 hours every day is ultimately up to you. How you treat your body is up to you. How you use your brain is completely in your control. This in itself is a marvelous gift!
If you feel uneducated, get educated! Unfit, get fit! Unhappy, find out what will make you happy! I know. It is sometimes easier said than done. Sometimes we just need the right tools. At times the correct tool might be a person. Another time it might be knowledge that is needed. Remember this…you are not on this planet alone. There are resources, tools and people all around you. We are on the planet together to help and assist each other. Use the tools and resources around you to assist you in your quest in making your journey, your journey.
A few things to remember; No one can ruin your day without your permission, most people will be as happy as they decide to be and life is a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the adventure!
So I ask again…who is responsible for dis un ? Dis un being your health, your mind…your choices…dare I say, your attitudes? Indeed, who is responsible for your life? If asked, I hope you will stand up proudly and state, “I AM!”

Save Our Kids, Make A Difference! Please Read!!!

The Toxin-Free Infants and Toddlers Act is on its way to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk to be signed into law! Activists like you have attended meetings, emailed and called your senators and assembly members trying to make this day happen.

But we need our supporters to stand up one more time. This landmark legislation will ban bisphenol A, the toxic plastics chemical, in baby bottles and sippy cups. Governor Brown needs to hear from you that you want this bill signed into law. Californians want their children protected from BPA.

Click here to stand with EWG Action Fund and tell Governor Brown to sign the Toxin-Free Infants and Toddlers Act!

BPA, a synthetic estrogen used to harden plastic, can leach from containers into the food and drink that children consume. Extensive research has linked BPA to serious health problems such as early puberty, brain and heart disorders, and, in later life, prostate and breast cancer and infertility.

Environmental Working Group has tested consumer products such as receipts, food, infant formula and drink containers to see how much BPA they contain. We also tested the umbilical cord blood of 10 American newborns and found that babies are being polluted by BPA and other chemicals — while still in the womb.

Now is our chance to take some of this BPA off the market and protect our kids. The Toxin-Free Infants and Toddlers Act is only one signature away from becoming law.

Click here to tell Governor Brown to protect California’s children and sign the Toxin-Free Infants and Toddlers Act today!

Thank you for standing up against BPA.

Spent 40 Years in the Wilderness…Are We So Different?

We have all heard about how the Isrealites spent 40 years in the wilderness…a trip that should have taken 11 days!  I personally have always wondered how they could have been so stupid!  They had seen amazing miracles happen right before their eyes!  How could they forget?  Loose faith?  Turn elswhere?  How could they!!!

And this morning it hit me!  40 years.  How old am I?  How many of those 48 years have I spent wandering the wilderness, forgetting the miracles I have seen my Lord do? A year ago He was so present in my life.  I saw His miracles all around me.  He had done wonderful, miraculous things in my life and those of my loved ones.  I saw it daily. I felt Him every minute of the day.  How joyful I was!  How could I have lived any other way?  This is it!  This is where I want to stay!

But change is hard.  Even if it is good change.  Just like that frog in boiling water.  Slowly , but surely the old ways slipped back in. Oh, there are excuses.  Trials came into my bliss.  No kidding, right.  This is still life.

Did God change?  Did God leave my side?  Did God quit loving me and paying attention to my life?  Absolutely not!  I’m the one who left His side.  Just like any relationship, whether it be a spouse, son or daughter, or friend, it needs constant work.  It is not unchanging.  The relationship is either going to grow and the roots become even deeper and stronger; or it will start to wither and dry up.  It all depends on the amount of love and care that goes into it.  Why would my relationship with my Lord be any different.  The difference is that my God did not change.  He did not decide He couldn’t be bothered with me.  He did not decide that He no longer cared.  No, I am the one that slowly but surely started making Him a lower priority. Ah, I am ashamed.  But the good new is, He is still there waiting for me.  I can turn around and run into His arms and He will still embrace me!  And He knows how much I need a warm loving hug.  My God is an awesome God.  And I will once again, turn and walk into His embrace.  And I will once again vow to make my relationship stronger with Him.  I will spend more time focused on Him, I will pay attention to all the miracles and blessings He has placed before me and I will spend time with Him.  And I will have to work daily on this relationship to have it grow and to get to know Him better.  I do not want to walk around in circles any more.  I want to walk the path He has designed for me.  But I will have to be careful…

Even as I was pondering and praying about all this an hour ago, I got on my computer to start writing ( which I am not very good at, but I needed to get it out)…but first I had to check my emails.  Cool!  My wonderful hubby sent me fishing pics!  I slowly pulled myself back.  And than I read an email that upset me and caused my head to whirl.  Next thing I knew I was very upset and my mind was once again focusing on the unimportant.

Back to my favorite Proverbs…Proverbs 3 :

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways  aknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

Another realization!  I have never thought “Do not be wise in your own eyes”, was meant for me.  That is for people who think more highly of themselves then they should.  People who think they are better than others.  But wait!  Why do I keep taking back my life into my own hands?  Hmm.  Maybe it is meant for me.  Even though I know…I know, I know! that God can take better care of my life than I can.  Why , oh why, do I keep taking it back?  Fear?  Lack of faith? No, not really…well, maybe sometimes.  But love conquers fear.  Okay, I’m rambling.

Bottom line: Like all relationships that are important, they need work, they need commitment and they are worth it!  And what is more important than my realtionship with my maker? Nothing! 🙂

An easy way to get up from a chair protecting your back

This was shared to me from a woman my elder (actually she was showing/telling my mom).  I thought it was something that needed to be shared with all! So here goes:

  1. Sit toward the end of your chair
  2. Feet sholder width apart
  3. Tuck in your chin
  4. Move head out and tail up
  5. Stand up straight
  6. untuck chin

Reverse to sit down…easy isn’t it! 🙂

Time for a Media Break

Today I had a realization!  I managed to pull myself away for a few minutes and actually start reading a book that I had been anxiously waiting for.  It took me several hours…there were emails, responses to fb, postings to read , blogs  Twitter, etc.  But I finally did it!  I was thoroughly enjoying my book and feeling quite good about myself and rather relaxed.  Ahh, this is great!  And then I read something that hit me right between the eyes!  This is what I read, ” Conscious living means becoming aware of all the choices we have and acting on them.  Break out of the trance! Conscious living involves a realization that we don’t have to run our lives on automatic pilot.  We can turn off the television (remember TV stands for time vacuum), read labels, turn off the lawn sprinklers when we have enough rain, notice how our food tastes, and notice how tense and contracted we are when we drive fifteen mph over the speed limit.  Consciously work on relationships, life goals, and maximize our potential.  An exercise in conscious living: For 3 workdays in a row minimize your attachment to the world of media.  No radio, television, internet, newspaper or magazines.  See what you become aware of about yourself and the world around you. ”

Wow!  I realized that I have been neglecting people in my life and being controlled by social media.  I can be planning on jumping in the shower and an email can have me going in another direction for 2 hours!  Or as much as I love the wonderful advise and articles on my favorite blogs, can they  distract me from what I had orignally planned for the day?  Have I kept my daughter’s and husband waiting while I respond to  someone on a blog, fb or email?  I am sad to say yes.

One of my pet peves is walking into a room and seeing everyone with their own iphone, ipod, DS, laptop or some other technical equipment and ignoring everyone else in the room!  There is nothing like having 6 teenagers sitting there texting their friends who aren’t there and ignoring the ones right there in person!  Ahh, kids these days!  What happened to face-to-face communication?

Now I sit with dirt on my face.  I am as guilty as they are. So, it is time for me to go out and smell the roses….not just read about them online 🙂  I am taking the rest of the week off from the internet!  I am going to put my nose in books I’ve been wanting to read, and spend time with my wonderful husband and daughters before the school rush begins!  So, as much as I love you guys I am going to be working on my health this week. Specifically, my emotional, spiritual and relationship health.  It is all part of the puzzle and all part of being truly healthy.  So see you in a few days!  Cheers to your health!

A way to get fit for any age, any fitness level, anyone! Even if you are out of time and won’t cost you a dime! Be on the lookout for daily step-by-step ways!

I know getting fit and finding time to exercise is not always as easy as it sounds.  If you are like me, you have the desire and the motivation, but just can’t seem to fit it into your busy schedule. Or maybe you’d really like to, but think that it is hopeless because of your particular circumstances.  Don’t give up!!  I have the way that everyone, I mean everyone, can use to get in better shape! No matter what your circumstances! (For anyone with particular physical challenges, contact me and I will let you know how you can modify this to work for you)

This might sound a little unusual, or just plain to easy.  But stick with me for 30 days and you can judge for yourself.  Besides, it’s free and all you have to gain is better health!

You may be wondering how you are going to do this with your busy schedule.  You are probably thinking right now that you don’t have an extra 30 minutes every day to dedicate to this.  No problem!  You don’t have to!  You will be doing little 30 -60 second exercises throughout the day.

How is that going to help? A measly few second exercises throughout the day!  Well, those measly few seconds add up…and so will your muscles! More muscles, faster metabolism!  You will be building muscles and increasing your flexibility, all with a few simple
changes.

And best of all, these exercises can be done anywhere!  In your house, at work, at a friend’s, onvacation, literally anywhere!

Let’s get started!

Day 1

When you first wake up: Stretch.  You probably already do.  Just make it a purposeful stretch. Stretch up
to the sky, and reach over your head to each side.

Into the restroom you go (I know, sounds a little strange,
but bare with me. No pun intended) While you are sitting anyway, just roll you
head from side to side.

When you step out of the shower, make your drying off
process work for you.  When you go to dry
your leg, put one foot up on the bathroom counter or on the side of the bathtub.
Keeping your leg as straight as comfortable, just dry your leg.  You should feel a gentle stretch in the back
of your leg.  This should not hurt.  Do this at a comfortable level for you.  FYI the lower your leg, the easier it
is.  While you foot is still supported,
point and flex that foot a few times .
Then make small circles with your ankles in both directions. Now switch
legs, placing that foot on the floor & your other foot up on the counter or
side of tub.  Repeat the same steps

That’s it for day 1! Tomorrow we will add more.  This is just a small taste of what’s to
come.  .Did this take any time? Nope! You
needed to dry off and sit on that toilet anyway! J  It is just a new way of doing things. For
today, just think about how you can add more fitness into your day with the
schedule you already have.  Do you go up
any stairs?  Can you go up them
faster?  Just be aware today that you
have more options on how you do things.
Can you tweak something slightly somewhere ?

Have a fabulous day!

Kids & Chemicals

In 2005 Belinda and her newborn baby participated in a study which investigated the burden of chemicals on the human body. Throughout Belinda’s pregnancy she was tested for 290 chemicals that she may have ingested, absorbed or inhaled over the course of her lifetime. Her breast milk that she was now passing on to her baby was also tested. When her baby was born, his blood, placenta and umbilical cord were similarly tested.
What the researchers found in Belinda’s body was a chemical cocktail dating back from her time in the womb-from the breast milk she consumed from her mother, chemicals from the photography lab she played in as a child as her father developed his prints, and the now banned
polychlorinated biphenyl from the plasticizers in the paint plant which leaked into the drinking water downstream from where she went to university. The tests also found perflourinated chemical (PFCs), a group of chemicals used as surfactants and stain protectors contained in sticky tape, carpet protectors, non-stick pans, household cleaners, and flame retardants’; Bisphenol A , found in plastic used in water bottles, including baby bottles, Tupperware, and computers; phthalates found in cosmetics, shampoos, personal care products such as soap, creams, lotions, sunscreens and fragrances; lead and dioxins; and chemicals such as mercury which the researchers traced back from the time she was vaccinated as a child. Her blood also contained chemicals now banned or restricted around the world due to their accumulative and harmful effects, including the pesticide DDT.
Her newborn baby already harbored most of the same chemicals that were in Belinda’s body. These included pesticides, including DDT, chemicals from the same personal care products, plastics, and waste chemicals. These chemicals entered her baby in the same way they originally entered Belinda- via the placenta, umbilical cord and breast milk. The key point here is that there is no such thing as a “barrier” that so many people assume exists. As her baby continues to develop he will then continue to ingest, absorb or inhale chemicals via the food and drink he consumes, the personal care, cleaning products or drugs he is exposed to, and the environment where he learns and plays.
The important thing about these findings is that Belinda and her baby lead a life like most of the population. She shops for their food at major
supermarket chains, and buys her cosmetics, personal care products and clothing from department stores. She was vaccinated as a child; takes medications and drugs when her body hurts, but has never had any major illness in her life, and significantly, uses all of these products as directed. So what’s going on? What are these chemicals doing in their body and those of her newborn baby?
In fact, the chemicals in Belinda and her baby’s bodies are not uncommon. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in US hospitals. Test revealed a total of 287 chemicals in the group similar to that of Belinda’s baby- pesticides’, consumer product ingredients, and wastes from burning coal, gasoline, and garbage. Of the 287 chemicals detected in the umbilical cord blood 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. The World Wildlife Fund’s(WWF) study found similar contaminants including artificial musks used in cosmetics and cleaning products as well as flame retardants and chemicals used to make
plastics and non stick and waterproof coatings at the most critical time of development-in the womb. Every single sample of mother or baby blood tested positive for an array of chemicals, many of which are suspected of links to health problems ranging from birth defects and genital abnormalities to certain types of cancer. All umbilical cords contained a minimum of five of the 35 chemicals tested for and some contained as many as 14. Two of the mothers tested had 17 of the 35 chemicals in their blood.Babies and children are particularly vulnerable to chemicals due to their increased opportunity for exposure coupled with the biological susceptibility that is an inherent characteristic of early growth and development-lower body weight, lower metabolic rate, fewer detoxifying enzymes, and a blood brain barrier that is not yet fully matured. Children also eat 3-4 times more food in proportion to their body size than adults, thereby ingesting more chemicals per unit of body mass,
drink as much as seven times more water than an average adult, and breathe more than adults per kilo of body weight. Children also have higher skin surface area to body weight ratio than adults, so increased skin absorption of chemicals can occur. The skin of children is also more permeable than adult skin. Studies reveal enhanced absorption of toxins and chemical through the skin of newborns.Whilst our bodies can eliminate some chemicals, most chemicals are stored in our bone, fat, tissues and organs and either stay there for years of life. Some damage a specific organ, while others damage multiple organs as they pass through the body. Many others have an additive, or cumulative effect,
meaning that the toxicity of one chemical adds to the toxicity of another. For newborns to be born with this toxic burden raises serious moral
and ethical issues for our society. In moral terms, how well a society cars for its weak and vulnerable is a measure of how civilized it is; in more pragmatic terms, a society that fails to cherish its children fails. It’s as simple as that.

EWG’s  List of the Dirty Dozen Warrants Being Listed

Why Should You Care About Pesticides?

The growing consensus among scientists is that small doses of pesticides and other chemicals can cause lasting damage to human health, especially during fetal development and early childhood. Scientists now know enough about the long-term consequences of ingesting these powerful chemicals to advise that we minimize our consumption of pesticides.

What’s the Difference?

EWG research has found that people who eat five fruits andvegetables a day from the Dirty Dozen™ list consume an average of 10 pesticides a day. Those who eat from the 15 least contaminated conventionally-grown fruits and vegetables ingest fewer than 2pesticides daily. The Guide helps consumers make informed choices to lower their dietary pesticide load.

Will Washing and Peeling Help?

The data used to create these lists is based on produce tested as it is typically eaten (meaning washed, rinsed or peeled, depending on the type of
produce). Rinsing reduces but does not eliminate pesticides. Peeling helps, but valuable nutrients often go down the drain with the skin. The best approach: eat a varied diet, rinse all produce and buy organic when possible.

WISE WORDS FROM:

9 Scariest Food Facts

Fruits and vegetables are losing their nutrients.
According to the USDA, the fruits and vegetables we eat today may contain significantly fewer nutrients than those our grandparents ate. Researchers looked at 43 produce items and discovered drops in protein (6 percent), calcium (16 percent), iron (15 percent), riboflavin (38 percent), and vitamin C (20 percent). The only way to counter this trend: Eat more of them.

Conventional supermarket peaches can be coated with as many as nine different pesticides.
Because peaches are prone to bruising, blemishing, and insect takeover, they’re routinely soaked in chemicals in the weeks before being shipped off to the supermarket. That’s why the Environmental Working Group rates peaches among the dirtiest conventional fruits in America. Also on that list: apples, celery, strawberries, and spinach. As a general rule, unless the produce has a thick, impermeable skin, assume it’s soaked in pesticides. Now wash it with water and mild soap before you eat it.
